Earthquake Sunday in Geysers Area

A 3.0 magnitude temblor shook the area in Sonoma County—the largest geothermal field in the world.

A 3.0 earthquake was recorded just after 4 p.m. Sunday near The Geysers in Sonoma County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It occurred at a depth of 1.3 miles, 2 miles east-southeast of the area, which borders Lake County in the Mayacamas Mountains. It is the world's largest geothermal field, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

The region experiences constant seismic events between 0.5 and 3.0 on the Richter scale.
