The closed session will commence at 5:30 pm.  The open meeting is estimated to commence at 6:30 pm.

The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the impacts of the Supreme Court’s December 29, 2011 decision to affirm legislation which dissolves all 400+ redevelopment agencies in California, and the impact of the dissolution of the Sonoma Community Development Agency.

The City Council is required to meet in order to comply with the legislative deadlines imposed under Assembly Bill 1x 26, the legislation which dissolves redevelopment agencies.

At the January 12th Special Meeting, the City Council will consider whether to elect to serve as the “Successor Agency” to the Sonoma Community Development Agency, under the provisions of AB 1x 26. The City Council will also hold a discussion considering whether to retain the housing functions of the Sonoma Community Development Agency.

Sonoma’s Redevelopment Agency, known as the Sonoma Community Development Agency, was originally formed in 1983, encompassing approximately 380 acres including most of the central core of the City of Sonoma.  In 1997, the City added property to the original project area containing an additional 272 acres of land at the south end of the City.

The current annual tax increment includes approximately $4.6 million for capital projects and related programs and $1.1 million for low to moderate housing programs and projects.
