You can celebrate the birthday of renowned author and adventurer Jack London on Sunday with a special docent-led hike on the state park named after him, followed by wine tasting at a nearby winery.
The hike starts at 10 a.m. at Jack London State Historic Park. Hikers should meet in the upper parking lot, past the kiosk at the top of London Ranch Road. Wine tasting will begin at 11:30 a.m. at nearby Benziger Winery on London Ranch Road.
The focus of the hike will be London's avant garde ideas about sustainable agriculture. Benziger Winery is known for its biodynamic and sustainable operation. Tickets for the hike and tasting are $15 and can be purchased online.
London's Beauty Ranch is now part of the state park, which is operated by a volunteer group, Valley of the Moon Natural History Association. London lived there with his wife from 1905 until his death in 1916. The park is also a National Historic Landmark.
