No Charges Against Carrillo After Incident in San Diego

The city attorney will not bring criminal charges against Supervisor Efren Carrillo due to conflicting stories.

The San Diego City Attorney's Office said Monday it is not filing criminal charges against Sonoma County Supervisor Efren Carrillo in connection with a fight outside a bar in that city on Sept. 2.

"Charges were not filed because there were conflicting accounts of what occurred and insufficient evidence to prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt," city attorney's office spokeswoman Gina Coburn said.

The office's criminal division reviewed the incident, she said.

"Their ethical standard is whether charges can be proven beyond a
reasonable doubt based upon evidence presented to them," Coburn said.

Carrillo said the fight occurred when he came to the defense of three female friends who were "accosted and harassed" by a man outside the Fluxx nightclub in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter around 2 a.m.

He was not immediately available for comment on Monday.
