Sonoma County Libraries to Consider Fee Increases

Library Commission to discuss at May 7 meeting.

 

Sonoma County Library Commission -- which governs public libraries in Sonoma County including the -- will discuss possible increases in library fines and fees at its May 7 meeting.  The topic is on the agenda for 7 p.m. at the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Library, 6250 Lynne Conde Way in Rohnert Park.

“The Commission will not take action on Monday night but may vote on increases at a future meeting." said Commission Chair Julia Freis.  "This discussion is the time for people to make their views known on paying more, including higher fines for overdue items and potential fees for requesting items.”

An increase in fees would be the second major push to balance the library budgets.

Currently, Sonoma County libraries charge 20 cents per day for overdue materials, with a maximum of $5 per item. Library users who owe more than $10 are blocked from renewing items or checking out new material.
