Springs Celebrates 100 Years of Mail, Saturday

Speeches and events begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9

The much anticipated day has arrived: join Springs residents as the celebrate the centennial of the Boyes Hot Springs, with a series of events starting this morning.

The celebration kicks off with an open house of historical photos, entertainment (including speeches from Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey and Supervisor Valerie Brown) and a commemorative postmark and envelope, designed by tireless organizer Michael Acker.

The event recognizes the importance of the post office in an area where many residences have no mail delivery.

“The immigrant population relies on the post office for communication with their families back home. The postal workers are known and loved by everybody,” said Acker.

The event also celebrates the history of the area and gives a look into possibilities for the future. The U.S. Postal Service is contributing to the open house by sprucing up the lobby with fresh paint. Many local individuals and businesses have become sponsors of the event.
