Veteran Aircraft and Autos for Skypark Family Fun Day

Visitors can learn about the Young Eagles, meet candidates for upcoming election and enjoy a barbecue and hayrides.

It’s fun. It’s family oriented. And it’s free.

Skypark Airport pilots, volunteers and staff offer their annual Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. It’s a chance to get up close to antique, vintage and experimental aircraft as well as shiny hot rods and rare automobiles from days gone by.

The event brings hundreds of children and parents and those interested in good old-fashioned amusement and a chance to view venerable airplanes and autos.

This year’s event organizer is veteran airplane owner and pilot Jeanette Woods, one of the core volunteers who regularly provides free monthly flights for young adults in the Young Eagles Program.

Family Fun Day acquaints the community with the many services offered by the airport’s volunteer pilots while benefiting two non-profit groups in the area – the Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance and Skypark’s Air Explorer Post #1268 for young people interested in aviation. Last year, between 400 and 500 people enjoyed the festivities that raised $2,400 for the two non-profits, according to Ron Price, airport manager.

Wear a hat, sunscreen and sturdy shoes for the event. Skypark Airport is located at 21870 Eighth St. E.
