Water Rate Increase Proposal Key Issue at Tonight's City Council Meeting

Now broadcasting live on Channel 27

The regular bi-weekly meeting of the Sonoma City Council takes place tonight, at 6 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room.

City Council meetings are open to the public, per the agenda, with a period for public commentary on non-agenda items usually placed at the beginning of the meeting.

The meetings are broadcast on Channel 27, and carried live on this video stream. Past City Council meetings are archived on video at SunFMtv.com.

Item 7A on the agenda (attached) is getting the most attention, from the Press Democrat to the Mornings in Sonoma radio program to the "man on the street":

Discussion, consideration and possible action on acceptance of 2012 Water Rate Study update and adoption of a 5-year plan for water rate increases. (Public Works Director)
Staff Recommendation: Accept updated data from the 2012 Nelson Water Rate Study and authorize the 5-year plan to implement water rate increases of 5% per year for 2013-2018. Rate increases to be effective on February 1st of each year.

Other agenda items include construction of additional graves at Veterans Memorial Park Cemetary and a request by Veterans of Foreign Wars for permission to operate a helicopter in conjunction with the “Cost of Freedom Tribute” in November of this year.
