Sonoma Gears up With Sandbags for Potential Floods

Sandbags will be available at City Hall and Friedman Bros. Hardware.

To help Sonoma prepare for possible flooding and the associated need for sandbags and sand, the City is issuing the following information.

If flood alerts are issued for Sonoma Creek and its tributaries, the City will have a limited number of sandbags available free of charge at City Hall during normal business hours [8 a.m. to 5 p.m.]. Sand will be available free of charge at Depot Park, 270 First Street West.  Residents will need to bring their own shovels. After City Hall closes, residents will need to bring their own bags.  This emergency distribution begins when a flood or flash flood watch is posted by the National Weather Service.  Follow the link at the bottom of this page to check the current status of watches and warnings.  Sand and sandbags are also available from Friedman Bros. Hardware located at 1360 Broadway during their normal retail hours. Please note that strong winds are expected with this storm.

City Public Works personnel will be on duty weekdays and on call after hours and through the weekend.  To report flooding or possible flooding, call City Hall [938-3681] from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday or call 911 after hours and weekends to report the flood location.  Public Works personnel will respond as quickly as available.
