Sonoma Valley High School Bulletin Week of May 6 - 10

The weekly bulletin, sent out Monday every week, came to Patch late. Here's what's left for this week and the rest of May



Attention students and staff who drive to school -- We have an agreement with the neighborhoods surrounding Sonoma Valley High School that students and staff will use our own school parking lots for school and sporting events and not park on the streets in residential neighborhoods --especially in front of peoples’ houses.  Complaints have recently been filed from our neighbors that an increasing amount of students are parking in these non-designated areas.  Please abide by these school rules and agreements and be a good neighbor.

Need help with Geometry or Algebra II?  Free tutoring with Jim Jepson every Wednesday from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in room J9.  Sign-ups are on the door of J9.  Space for eight students—make sure you get in!

Need help with math?  Free tutoring with Ms. Rivara at the Boys and Girls Club every Wednesday from 6:30-9:00 p.m.

Summer School Applications are now available in the main office -- Please turn in the completed signed form by Wednesday, May 8.

Come support the Sonoma Valley High School Music Department at their Dine and Donate on Wednesday, May 8, at Black Bear Diner in Sonoma from 2:00 – 10:00 p.m. -- There will be student performances between 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the Department.

New Link Crew Leaders for the 2013-2014 school year -- Don’t forget that May Day is this week.  You have a choice between Wednesday, May 8, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and Thursday, May 9, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. 

Attention Seniors – Cap and Gown Distribution will be Thursday, May 9, during break and lunch.   Do you still need to buy your cap and gown?  Bring $50 (cash only) to the Jostens tent on Thursday, May 9.  Tassels also for sale -- cost is $10 (cash only).

Ag students and families, it's time to celebrate your success at the annual FFA Banquet! -- On Thursday, May 9, we will be recognizing our FFA student's hard work from throughout the year.  We encourage you to come enjoy an evening of good food and positive student success! Our banquet will be hosted by the 2012-2013 Sonoma FFA Officer Team in the Pavilion at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9. Tickets are $10 per person or $40 for a family of 5.  Please contact Ms. Rush in room E3 for more information!

Spring has sprung,  it's time to get your garden growing! -- Come out on Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, to the Sonoma FFA plant sale and support our agriculture students while adding to your yard a yummy and beautiful garden!  The farm will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, and on Saturday, May 11. The school farm is located at the end of Larkin Drive off of Napa Road!  Hope to see you there!

Attention Parents and Members of our Community -- Teacher Support Network volunteer Holly Kyle is again coordinating judges and is calling for 350 volunteers for Senior Project Night on Tuesday, May 14, from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m.  Refreshments and check-in will start at 3:30 p.m.  There will be an orientation at 4:20 p.m.  No experience is necessary and there will be faculty in every classroom.  If interested, Holly can be contacted at holly@sckyle.com or 938-5958.

Presales for the El Padre Yearbook will be taken thru Wednesday, May 15 -- Cost is $100.  You can purchase through the school web page or at the Student Activities Window.  All yearbooks are on a first come first served basis.

Hard copies will also be available at the Main Office for students and parents to use.  The closing date is now set for Friday, May 17, so please help out be completing the surveys.

Sonoma Valley Hospital is offering free EKG screening to high school and collegiate athletes playing organized sports, between the ages of 15-21 years old on Wednesday, May 15 (3-5 p.m.), Saturday, May 18 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.), and Wednesday, May 22 (3-5 p.m.) at the Hospital’s Cardiopulmonary Department.  For more information or to make an appointment, call 935-5045 or visit them online at www.svh.com.

Seniors - Don't miss out on attending SVHS Grad Night on Friday, May 31! --Registration forms are available on the SVHS website or at the Student Activities window. Cost is $75. Get your forms turned in now!

Boys Open Gym Basketball – Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., in Pfieffer Gym.

Parents/Caregivers -- It’s time to sign up for Sonoma Valley Dragon Boys Basketball Camp– June 17 – 21, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in SVHS Pfeiffer Gym. Camp is for boys grades 3rd-8th under the direction of Coach Dennis Housman. Cost is $150 ($125 for two or more brothers) and scholarships are available.
