Student and Parents News from Sonoma Valley High School

School year coming to an end, but still housekeeping, prom photos, career plans and a survey of the school accreditation process

Attention SVHS Students and Parents
Sonoma Valley High School will be working on the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) accreditation process next year. 
As part of this process, surveys of the school community are desired.  To fill out the survey, go to the following links:    

 Hard copies will also be available at the Main Office for students and parents to use.  A new, extended closing date is now set for Friday, May 24, so please help out by completing the surveys.  

SPORTS

Dragon Pride Congrats to the SVHS Varsity Baseball Team for winning the SCL Tourney title!   

A round of applause to our Lady Dragon Varsity Softball Team for finishing up the year with one of the best overall seasons in school history!  The girls placed 2nd in the SCL and are seeded 4th for the NCS Division 3 Championships.  

Congratulations to NCS Track athletes Mackenzie Albrecht, Greg Maggioncalda, and Owen Ljung --
They will be competing on Friday, May 24, at the prestigious Meet of Champions at Edwards Stadium on the UC Berkeley campus.  

Free sports physicals for current SVHS students –
Girls:  Wednesday, May 22, 2:00-4:00 p.m., in the Girls Locker Room.  

Sports Camps

Lady Dragons Basketball Camp -- Parents, it is now time to sign up your daughters currently in 3rd through 8th grade for Basketball Camp, June 10 – 14 (M-F) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Cost:  $150 ($125 for sisters) includes quality basketball, t-shirt, and prize opportunities.   Cost is just $30 a day for partial attendance.

Parents/Caregivers -- It’s time to sign up for Sonoma Valley Dragon Boys Basketball Camp
– June 17 – 21, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in SVHS Pfeiffer Gym.  Camp is for boys grades 3rd-8th under the direction of Coach Dennis Housman.  Cost is $150 ($125 for two or more brothers) and scholarships are available.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEEK OF MAY 20 - 24

Time to claim your lost items from the Front Office Lost and Found – Unclaimed items will be donated on Friday, May 24.  

PE Waiver Students -- Please turn in all PE Waiver Verification forms to the Registrar, Kyra Halkovich, by the last day of school, Thursday, May 30.  If you participated in a sport and want it to count for this year’s PE Waiver, please turn it in ASAP if you want it to count!  If you have any questions, please see Kyra or your counselor.  

Attention Seniors
Graduation Leis will be distributed by Leadership on Friday, May 31, as well as at Graduation.  

Seniors - Don't miss out on attending SVHS Grad Night on Friday, May 31! -- Registration forms are available on the SVHS website or at the Student Activities window.  Cost is $75.  Get your forms turned in now!  

SVHS Senior and SVUSD Student Trustee, Jose Heredia,
will be profiled on Wendy Tokuda’s (KPIX-CBS) program “Students Rising Above” during the following TV segments:
  • Friday, June 7, on KPIX Channel 5 News at 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 8, on the Weekend Morning News
  • Monday, June 10, on the Noon News
All of the “Student Rising Above” stories will appear on http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com  following air time, and will later appear on www.studentsrisingabove.org .  

Summer Assignments
:
Students taking AP Biology
next year, please come to Ms. Metcalfe’s room, M4, to check out a textbook and get instructions for the summer assignment.  Please come before school, at lunch, or during A+ before the end of the year.  
The summer assignments for AP Calculus AB and AP Computer Science are now available on Mrs. Wittbrodt’s web page.
Students taking AP Chemistry next year, please come to Mr. Kramer’s room, M1, to check out a textbook for the summer assignment.  Please come before school, at lunch, or during A+ before the end of the year.  

Yearbooks –
There are still yearbooks left.  Come to room H27 if you would like to purchase one.

COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
Seniors! -- Did you receive a scholarship at Senior Awards?  Then you need to be in the Library on Thursday, May 23, during A+!  We are going to have a thank you note party and you don’t want to miss the fun!  We’ll supply the thank you notes, too!   See Mrs. Conner or Mrs. Klenow for an A+ pass.  See you THIS Thursday, May 23!  

Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors
-- Are you looking for a summer job?  SVUSD is looking for students to help with maintenance (painting and beautification) over the summer.  Please fill out an application in the College and Career Center.  The deadline is Friday, May 31.  

Seniors headed to SRJC!  -- Summer enrollment is now open!  Make sure to sign up for Counseling 270 as soon as possible!  Please stop by the College and Career Center if you need help enrolling and or registering.
