Sunflower Shines for Prestwood 2nd Grader at Ag Days

Luc Rulmont took the Grand Prize and his twin sister got a third in the Farm Bureau's competition this week.

The Sonoma County Farm Bureau announced the winners of the Ag Days 2013 photography contest at the awards dinner on Tuesday night at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. This year’s theme was “Bee Healthy... Farm Happy” and had eight  different categories for the students of Sonoma County schools to enter.

My son, Luc Rulmont, 2nd grader at Prestwood School, surprised us by winning the Grand Prize for his sunflower photo he took last summer. He grew the sunflower in our garden and to his surprise grew to seven feet tall. He was actually standing on a bench in the garden to get this photo.

What he really liked about the photo was that there were 2 bees on the sunflower-he has a twin sister and things coming in two’s are very appropriate for our family. He was given a plaque and a $50 check he wants to deposit into his savings account.

His twin sister, Sophie Rulmont, also won third place for her Montini Ranch photo. Photography just may run in our family with his grandmother, a local professional photographer and his great-grandfather, who wrote a book about photography and was also an accomplished photographer.

Awards presented by: Supervisor Shirlee Zane, Supervisor Susan Gorin,, Socorro Shiels, and Dr. Steven Herrington. Luc Rulmont, 2nd Grade, Prestwood School.
