Don’t Overlook Certain Areas of Emergency Planning

In Home Care: Don’t Overlook Areas of Emergency Planning written by Stan Lawson

Disaster planning is a very important part of our lives, as the recent deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas remind us. We also live with the threats of earthquakes and devastating fires. Here at Sequoia Senior Solutions we have updated our planning.

How is your emergency plan? Does it take into account your family pets? How about your computer? I didn't think so. Most of us are prepared somewhat for a natural or man made disaster, but there are some things that might not have occurred to us.

Here's one suggestion:

Protecting Computer Data

Have you thought about what you would do if you lost your computer? We don’t just play games on them anymore. They have valuable information stored on them that cannot be replaced. Having several back up plans for your computer is the best way to go. You should have an online backup plan in case your computer is completely destroyed. You will be able to gain access to its contents when you get a replacement.

You should also have some type of removable hard drive or that contains all of your computer backups. In fact, you may want to have two separate units for this. This should be one that can be stored with your emergency supplies and one that you can grab quickly. The best way to do this is to update them both at the same time and put one back into your emergency kit. Make sure it's easy to access since you will be getting it out on a regular basis to keep it up to date.
