Wednesday is Free Slurpee Day at 7-Eleven - Take Our Poll

Huge News You Can Use: Get your free Slurpee at any 7-Eleven on July 11 to mark the date

Wednesday is July 11, as in 7-11, and, to celebrate the occasion, 7-Eleven stores across the country are handing out free Slurpees, as part of their annual promotion.

The on Railroad Ave. in Sonoma is not participating,  but there's also one at 194 W. Napa St. (996-4711). They will have free Slurpees from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., so stop by and get your free giant frozen drink. If you want one.

Five million drinks will be handed out while supplies last. Favorite flavors in Sonoma are, according to extensive research, Coke, Mountain Dew, Fanta, and sugar-free Strawberry Banana.

The Slurpee was originally known as the "slushy," and was invented by Omar Knedlik in the late 1950s when his soda fountain broke down. He had it made commercially as the ICEE machine, originally using an automobile air conditioner as the cooling unit.

7-Eleven stores starting carrying them in 1965, and in 1967 introduced the name "Slurpee" for the sound made in drinking them.
