Lavender Lovers Converge in Kenwood

Ah, the lavender. The color, the fragrance, the subtle flavor of this versatile flower is the subject of a weekend-long Lavender Festival in Kenwood, set amidst a five-acre lavender farm in full bloom.

The Lavender Festival, as the Kenwood Press reports, will be held at the  Sonoma Lavender Barn. Seminars by Rebecca and Gary Rosenberg, owners of Sonoma Lavender and authors of Lavender Fields of America, will run both days, along with a lavender cooking demonstration and tasting by chef and cookbook author Mary Bergin; and a beekeeping and honey production discussion with Sonoma Valley Honey.

The many uses of lavender are showcased at the Lavender Marketplace with hundreds of lavender products, many at discount; music by Nate Lopez on his unusual 7- and 8-string guitars, lavender cuisine from Worth Our Weight, wine from Chateau St. Jean and Nicholson Ranch, sparkling wine and beer.

Given the abundant uses of the plant, the Lavender Festival will even have a “Passport”-style feature, where you can collect stamps on your passport at each station around the five-acre field and receive a lavender gift.

It’s only $10, children under 12 are free. The Lavender Barn is at 8537 Sonoma Highway; turn east Chateau St. Jean and follow the signs. For more information see this webpage at sonomalavender.com.
