The Schell-Vista Fire Department, is a Volunteer-staffed fire protection agency. Its range covers 60 square miles, from Highway 34, to the north and east sides of Sonoma City, to Highway 116. It was established in 1942 and has a staff of 40 trained fire volunteers, who respond to wildfires and residential fires as well as medical emergencies and traffic accidents. The department has two stations, one at the corner of 8th Street East and East Napa Street, and one where Highway 12 and Highway 121 meet. The volunteers are led by Fire Department Chief Mitch Mulas.
