Eight St. East and East Napa, Sonoma
Yvonne Bowers May 24, 2013 at 08:42 am
The scene in the picture above is at Eighth St. East and East Napa Street, not Napa Road. Napa Rd.Read More is south of Napa St. on Eighth and is near the Vineyard Market.

After 5 years prison sentence, he will come out a 30 year old unwanted Rat. With nothing to offer inRead More life other than someone with a bad attitude, prison record, someone nobody wants. This boy has a long screwed up life looking at him,in this day and age he goofed up.I bet the parents are very proud that they raised a misfit in life.

Like Sonoma Valley Bank, or Darius' NY corruption charge for securities dealing without a license,Read More sad they break the law for a $buck. Seems the norm in Sonoma within these circles. Forget the law, are there no ethics or morals left anymore? What's become of Sonoma?

Here's my two cents worth: It's completely impossible to know what went wrong so maybe we shouldRead More wait and let the facts dictate a response before we assign blame. One thing all of us can learn from this is to get a small fire extinguisher, learn how to use it and keep it handy in case of a car fire. How many of you commenting have done just that? The other thing that we can do is to require that all drivers of commercial vehicles have training in response to emergencies such as this, and require that there be a means by which drivers and passengers of commercial vehicles can communicate effectively. Everyone likes to think that they would "do the right thing" in an emergency like this. But without training, none of us really knows. As emergency personnel will tell you, if you've been trained adequately to respond to an emergency, your training takes over and kicks in. You don't have to "think" per se. May God bless those who died and bless their family and friends. I'll remember them in my prayers.

And you know that for a fact? Really? How cruel to speculate. And sure- blame the victims- becauseRead More you wouldn't want to be kind and think that you, too, might be vulnerable to such a tragedy.

Maureen, no apology, I stand by my comments. The driver pulled over so passengers could get out. HeRead More did not go into the car and help anyone. Nurse Arrellano opened the back door. She did not go into the car and help anyone. They both did something, yet in public opinion neither did enough. By the way, let me borrow your words, if I may... "Who are you to judge" the driver, Maureen? Hello, Pot, my name is Kettle, nice to meet you.

Them BBQ him and serve him to the other inmates. If they don't like the chow, then they should dineRead More elsewhere.

I was so sad to hear of my friend's death. Alex was a classmate of mine & we met while we wereRead More on staff together at our college newspaper, The Oak Leaf. He was a class act: sweet, funny & genuine. He truly will be missed.

I was right at the corner of 1st st west and Spain Street, when the woman sped through the corner,Read More turning from Spain St to 1st St west, squealing the tires. Just as she went around the corner, a Sonoma Police Officer was going the opposite direction. I then proceeded onto 1st st west, and as I looked to my left, I saw a woman running from the burgundy van. About 30 seconds later, an Officer passed me near Depot Park, and I directed him (on foot) toward the complex where I saw the woman run from. By then, I was surrounded by about 6-7 officers, at least 4-5 of them with their guns drawn. I calmly walked away.

Rather than abandoning either red or blue or any other color to the gangs, I suggest wearing bothRead More together rather than just one or the other. This makes it clear you are not in any way accommodating or even acknowledging gang culture while reclaiming both colors. (They also work well together.)

If anyone needs any proof that gangs have crept into nearly every community in the nation, look noRead More further

I attended El Verano school from 1st grade to 5th grade in the 50's. I have wonderful memoriesRead More living there, going to school, as a child. It saddens and angers me to think of this infestation of morons that has infiltrated this beautiful area, and what was a fun and peaceful place to be. It also bothers me that I can't feel safe to come and visit where I grew up. I'll be sure not to wear red or blue.......so disgusting.

While the bay area is more accepting than some other areas, prejudice and discrimination continue toRead More be promoted by far too many, resulting in a climate that promotes hate crimes. "Ideology assailants report that their crimes stem from their negative beliefs and attitudes about homosexuality that they perceive other people in the community share. They see themselves as enforcing social morals." (APA) Hate crimes against gay people are the highest per person in the U.S. Attacks against gay people are more severe and violent than for other groups according to the FBI.

When did public property become "gang turf" that law abiding citizens should avoid?Read More Clearly we have a serious gang problem when law enforcement blames the victim for entering "gang turf". It is long past time to reclaim our streets and parks as open to all, and get serious about violent criminal gangs. Also troubling is the willingness of law enforcement officers to view a violent attack as a "fight" rather than a violent robbery and a hate crime.

Ah vigilantism, the tried and true method which has been shown to be 100% effective, and with whichRead More law enforcement certainly have no problem...
