Depot Park Museum

More than just a railroad depot museum, Depot Park Museum is a lovely, shaded park with an old-fashioned gazebo, benches…More and picnic tables. The museum itself, is in the Sonoma Depot building, with a cattle car, refrigerated car and caboose, poised on the tracks. The Museum was dedicated in 1978, and opened in 1979, after a fire destroyed the original building in 1976. The museum houses displays on the Great Bear Flag Revolt, the Miwok Indian period, and Rands Room which is full of railroad memorabilia. Admission is free.

The meetings, which start at 6:30pm, are open to the public. An up-to-date calendar of school events is available on the district's website. The district oversees more than 4,600 students in five elementary schools, two charter schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. In 2010, the school district recieved a federal "Investing in Innovation" grant of almost $3 million to expand the science and language program started at El Verano Elementary, as well as the Exploratorium. The superintendent of the district is Louann Carlomagno, who keeps a blog about district news at http://louannsvusd.wordpress.com.
